Flip That Don’t!
Flip That Don’t!

This is the second installment in the “What Are You Moving Towards” series. (You can catch the first one here: http://www.dinakennedy.com/the-energy-of-moving-towards/)
Yesterday I was reading a money and budgeting newsletter, and I read something that simply blew my mind. I’ve been thinking about it ever since, and puzzling over its power and its energy. I figured it out, and this is what I want to share with you today.
You’ve probably heard the old standard refrain: “don’t go food shopping when you are hungry” or “don’t go to the store when you are hungry.” Many of us have heard that our whole lives.
And then, when we forget and get to the store hungry, we find ourselves buying things we don’t want, don’t need, items that aren’t on our list or in our budget. Why? Because we are hungry, and right then and there they look or sound tasty, or fast and easy.
But when we back get to the car, or when we get home and unpack the groceries, we look at what we got, and what we spent, and wonder why the heck did I just bought those things. And we beat ourselves up for it. Why did I but this crap? I can’t believe how much I spent! Why can’t I stick to my list? Why do I always do this? I can’t believe I did this again – what is wrong with me? “Why did I go to the store hungry?” And on and on.
That feels just terrible, doesn’t it?
Ok – back to the article – in the article it said, simply, one way to save money at the grocery store is to eat before you go. You aren’t going to be tempted by much if you do that.
Not DON’T go to the store hungry — instead it says DO go to the store having eaten and feeling satisfied.
A completely different energy, and a total flip in intention and inspiration!
Suddenly you are moving towards. By following the directive of DO rather than DON’T, you have a momentum towards success. If I DO this thing, I will succeed is implied in the new idea.
Can you feel that difference in your energy?
One directive opens and lights the energy up, it takes us to “Oh! I can DO that.” The other directive contracts us — especially if we have “failed” at the DON’T even once before.
Pretty neat. It’s a big shifter.
Do you see how flipping that “don’t” to a “do” could be useful in other areas of your life too?
“Don’t” is a set up for failure – when we remind ourselves, or say to others “Don’t do that” it implies that you (or they) know better but you (or they) are likely to do it anyway.
“Do” is an invitation to succeed. It moves us towards our expansive self, and is a much happier energy.
“I don’t want to” is a totally different energetic vibration than “I DO want to,” isn’t it? Where can you start Flipping That Don’t in your life?
One Important Note: I NEED to DO feels, to me, the same as the DON’T energy. There’s no light to it, it’s constrictive. I WANT to DO or I AM CHOOSING to DO is much more expansive and en-lightening wording. Flip that one too when you catch yourself in it.
Wishing you fun and success with this one.
